O is for the Only one I see

I'm in love.  I really am.
Wet N Wild "Blue Wants to Be a Millionaire."  Stupid name, GORGEOUS color.  I mean, seriously.  Two of my favorite things:  cornflower blue and holo.  Scattered holo, but still.

Since I loved this color SO much, I had to play around with it.  Here it is with a French tip of China Glaze "High Def."  I even went nuts and did the reverse pattern as a "texting thumb" design:

THEN, because enough is never enough, I matte-ified that:

If it weren't for the fact that I found the OPI "Pirates of the Caribbean" collection at Wal-Mart (Wal-Mart?!?) tonight, I may never take this off.

I got nothing.

Sorry, gals.  (Guy?  Guys?)  When it comes to creativity, I am ZAPPED today.  I'm fighting a cold, or ridiculous allergies, or the demons in my head or something.  Feel.  Like.  Poop.  But hey, look, pretty nails!

This here's Zoya Felicity topped with Sally Hansen Snow Blast crackle coat on the ring and index fingers, and topped with Nfu Oh 40 on the rest.

Happy Pink Wednesday!

Sunny, thank you for the joy that you've given me!

Y'all, every time I do a single-day mani and take a picture of it on the very day after I've already posted, I tell myself I'm gonna keep that picture in my pocket for a day when I really need to post, but haven't changed my mani in several days.  Well, every time I do that, I find I can't sit on that picture for more than a few short days before being overcome with the need to SHARE that picture!

I have been sitting on some photos for about a week now of one lovely chica that I picked up from Zoya recently.  Prepare thyself for...SUNNY!  *Woohoo!  Yay! Rah!  Applause, Applause!*  (From my little desk chair, I like to pretend that you're all that excited over the introduction of new colors, although I am fairly certain you're really not.)

Ain't she just a BEAUT?  I was really quite captivated by this color.  It's a lovely coral that's plenty orange, but still has juuuuust enough pink that it's flattering to my cool-toned pale skin.  Love this!

Savages, Savages!

I really am starting to think that Sinful Colors is becoming the unsung hero of my nail polish world.  They're $1.99, they come in a gorgeous array of colors, they wear and apply well...what more could you want?

Today I bring you the second part of my foray into the Sinful Colors sorta-like-OPI-Texas collection.  This turquoise is not much like Austin-tatious Turquoise as far as a I can tell, but it is nevertheless a beautiful turquoise.  Heeeeeeere's Savage!

I am REALLY loving the French guides I brought recently.  "They changed my life" might be a bit melodramatic, but I really am sorry I didn't get some sooner.  Here I've tipped SC Savage with Zoya Indigo.

That sanctuary looks like it's been hosed down with Pepto Bismol!

This Pink Wednesday, I bring you my favorite Zoya pink so far...Sweet.  And it's, uh....SWEET!

When I set out to use Zoya's Earth Day Swap to bulk up my pink stash, I specifically went looking for a pink as close to Pepto-Bismol as possible.  I think we can call that mission accomplished, no?

They're heeeeeeere!

Every thirteen years, they invade.  They sing, they breed, they molt...they're EVERYWHERE.  They're...

CICADAS!!!!!
In honor of this momentous and annoying event, I concocted a manicure inspired by the pests.  It's a base of Avon Olive Green, with a coat of China Glaze Zombie Zest, side accents of OPI Black Shatter and a dot of Maybelline unlabelled red for the eyeball.

Pink Wednesday Fail

Big bad fail.  I took pictures at work and left my camera on my desk!  Boooo!  I had some goodies to show you, too!

The manicure itself was a fail, although I'm embracing what I like to think of as the concept of F.A.I.L.  "Fail - And I Learned!"  What I'm rocking today is Finger Paints Give Pink a Chance and Finger Paints Paper Mache.  I've got the pink on the nail and white on the tips.  I finally bought some stick-on French guides, and I'm having a good time...screwing up a French royally!

I'll update the pics to this post tomorrow night, but in the meantime, I give you what I've learned about using guides for a fun French mani:  Don't get in a hurry.  If you don't have time to do it properly, just don't do it unless you're willing to accept sub-par results.  It requires time for the base color to dry enough to be sure that the guides won't peel the color off and that you won't ding the base color while trying to apply the guides straight.  It also requires time for the tip color to dry enough to be sure that it won't drip/string off the guide when you remove it.

I'm a pretty impatient person, and I reaaaally love the notion of having all these color combos to play with, but I'm just going to have to learn that funky French manis are strictly for applying on the weekends when I have the time to dedicate myself to a job well done.

UPDATE:  For your viewing pleasure/displeasure...

Indoors
Outdoors, full sun
See what happens when you don't take your time?  (By the by, I acknowledge that this is more coral than pink.  If you don't feel that in qualifies for Pink Wednesday, please contact Finger Paints.)

I guess that's why they call it the blues.

So, the Predators are out of the Playoffs.  Waaaaaah!

I decided to freshen up my navy manicure from Sunday with a little experimentation, as I am wont to do when a manicure is nearing the end of its life.  Forthwith, Lippmann Lady Sings the Blues with Essie Matte About You topcoat on all the the ringfinger.  The french-tipped ringfinger bears a sky-blue H&M polish whose name escapes me.  (Sorry, it's not here with me, but it's a recent purchase, so I'm sure they still have it.)

Since my hands are not ready for their close-up at the moment and since you saw Lady Sings the Blues already, I decided not to focus on color-accuracy.  Instead, let's give a shout-out to the Instamatic app for the iPhone.  It makes any picture taken by any knucklehead (namely Yours Truly) look reaaaally groovy.  Check it out!

NOTD: Playoff Time in Music City!

It's a VERY exciting time in Nashville, with our Nashville Predators skating farther along in the Stanley Cup Playoffs than they ever have before.  Today my family and I went out to the airport with about 300 fellow fans to welcome the guys home from Vancouver.

Joel Ward
I figured there was no time like the present to try out my new Deborah Lippmann Lady Sings the Blues.  I know the Predators are really pushing the gold, but I'm sticking with the navy, white and silver, thankyousoverymuch.

You like me, you really like me!

Okay, as any good movie buff will know, that ain't exactly what Sally Field said up at the podium all those years ago.  What she said was, "...I can't deny the fact that you like me, right now, you like me!"  Go forth.  Impress people with that trivial knowledge.

Well, my little baby is growing up.  I've received my very first blog award, thanks to Nail Addict .  Thanks, sweetie!

This award requires that I reveal ten things about myself, so without further ado:

1.  I attended Space Camp at the age of 12.  Yes, once a nerd, always a nerd.
2.  As a young child, I was convinced of Santa's existence based on the fact that there's no way my single, divorced mother of two could possibly have afforded the VCR we got for Christmas when I was 7.  Nevermind that my grandparents also had money.
3.  I have appeared on national television, speaking and everything.
4.  My family kept a prairie dog and wolves when I was growing up.
4 1/2.  We also lived down the road from a zoo, and would listen to the wolves "talk" to the animals at night.
5.  If I won the lottery, I'd quit my job and have lots of piercings, tattoos and funky colored hair.
6.  If forced to choose a last meal, I'd take Krystal Chiks (no pickle, please), McDonald's fries, Yazoo Dos Perros beer and Ben & Jerry's Dublin Mudslide for dessert.
7.  I like food.  A lot.
8.  I wish I were a percussionist.
8 1/2.  I'm trying to learn to play the bodhran.  Google it.
9.  I used to have a second job as a valet parking attendant.
9 1/2.  I love being a girl in a man's world.
10.  I cannot resist the urge to put OPI Black Shatter over every polish I wear.

Zoya Rea, with half-moon Black Shatter, topped with Essie Matte About You.  This mani would have lasted FOREVER if I'd let it.

Zoya Moxie with Lippmann Today Was a Fairytale, topped with Black Shatter
This award also requires that I bestow it upon ten other bloggers.  I suspect all these fine ladies have been given the award before, so no need to share again if you don't want.  :-)

1.  !Kendal

It is such a great feeling to know that as few followers as I have, some of the bloggers I most admire are reading MY little ol' blog.  This has been a great deal of fun so far, and I really look forward to growing this new hobby of mine!

I got moxie!

Ya know, I miss old timey words like peachy, spunk and catawampus.  I think that's why I like today's Pink Wednesday color.  Heeeeere's Moxie!

This spiffy berry is a blue-based color from Zoya.  I've really been struggling lately with how to get Zoya to stay put.  The colors are gorgeous, but they just don't wanna stick around!  For this mani, I went through all the steps of the Zoya Color Lock System and got TERRIBLE bubbles!  If you maximize the picture, you can probably see the dots all over my middle finger (and the fingerprint on my ring finger, yowza).  I quickly applied a coat of Sally Hansen Insta Dri Clear to try to weigh down the bubbles, but they were so bad on my index finger that I had to do something to cover them up.

Hautelook.com recently had a half-price beautybar.com gift certificate, and I acquired my very first Lippman polishes.  I refuse to pay $18 for a bottle of polish - sorry, girls!  Here on my pointer you see Lippmann Today Was a Fairytale.  I am LOVING it, so expect to see it a lot in the future.

Happy Hump Day!
